The "How to be British" saga stereotypes is going on... Read Act I.

Living among English people
Act II

“You can tell I’m British because… I never refuse a drink”

As you may know there are many many pubs and bars around the city. Drinking is a way of life for most of the people here.

It is never too early…

The other day I saw a guy who was trying to get to the residence. “Trying” because every 5 m, as the poor guy was really sick, he needed to stop to vomit in the street. It was only 6.30 pm a Thursday afternoon.  [Fortunately, in England it rains quite often to “clean”]

I experienced also the way of partying. I live with 2 English girls. And usually they get drunk before (around 7pm) going out in a bar or a pub. Probably because it is cheaper.

Nor too late…

Last WE, 2 friends of mine came to Manchester to visit me. They arrived quite late (1am), but we decided anyway to go out to feel the atmosphere. It was nearly 3am.
It was really special. 3am it the time discos close and a lot of people were in the streets. The show was amazing. We saw only drunk people, happy girls (wearing very short cloths) laughing and unable to walk straight.
We walked up a bit the street and saw two guys fighting in front of a bar.

There is no excuse...

En route I met my flatmate and friends of hers. Among them a young mother (19 years old, her baby is 2 months old). I didn’t recognize her with her make up, short top and white short (last time I saw her she was pregnant). She was totally wasted. It was her first night out without the baby but it seemed that she just continued her drinking habits… Being a parent doesn’t mean quitting drunken nights out…

Really special moment… I guess it is the same show every Friday and Saturday night.

Never too old…

Some Mondays morning I often heard my “officemates”, two girls (22 and 24 years old) talking about their night out last WE “Oh yeah I was so drunk!! Blabla bla bla” and they talked about it so proudly!..

The other day, I talked to a guy  at the factory from the quality department. According to him, people go to pub because they need to relax (too many office hours [37 to 40 hours a week! ] and it rains so much that there isn’t anything else to do than going to pubs. Some gets drunk several times a week. Teenagers start as soon as they can get alcohol from somebody older...
He is himself 32 years old and still gets drunk at pub Saturday night. It is just a way of life. Not an illness.

Attempts to change habits

The government is aware about Britons behaviour. It is forbidden to carry a drink (even not opened) on the centre or any other zone clearly indicated with signs. You will get a fine for that if the police catch you.

Explicit poster, isn’t it?

Thus being drunk seems to be here a national behaviour for all the generations...
